A medical student and his girlfriend become involved in a bizarre experiment into reanimating the dead conducted by the student's incorrigible housemate in this campy sendup of an H.P. Lovecraft story. The emphasis is on humour but once the dead walk, there is gore aplenty

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) è un seguace del dott. Gruber, uno scienziato di Zurigo deceduto durante alcuni allucinanti esperimenti condotti su alcuni cadaveri. West, intenzionato a proseguire le ricerche del suo maestro, si reca in un ospedale americano e prosegue lo studio su uno speciale composto che, sottoforma di siero, iniettato nella zona occipitale del cervello riporta in vita il corpo dei defunti. Nelle sue operazioni si avvale dell'aiuto del giovane Dan (Bruce Abbott).
Il primario del reparto, Carl Hill (David Gale), è specializzato in lobotomie e, venuto a conoscenza dell'importante scoperta del giovane West tenta di appropriarsene il merito.
Nel frattempo il nuovo direttore dell'ospedale, il dott. Dea Halsey (Robert Sampson), rimane vittima di alcuni "rianimati" da West; mentre, durante un alterco con West, il dott. Hill perde letteralmente la testa e viene sottoposto al procedimento di rianimazione con conseguenze impressionanti: il tronco del corpo del dottore recupera la testa e minaccia (anche sessualmente) l'attraente Megan (Barbara Crampton), fidanzata di Dan e figlia del dott. Halsey….
Nel frattempo, perso completamente il controllo sui "redivivi", all'interno dell'ospedale si scatena l'inferno, con una violenza che non risparmierà nessuno dalla morte, e dalla "rianimazione"….
